wee grub closet: newborn
{click to enlarge}

today
we deal
with a very important
topic.
wee grub's
wardrobe.

wee grub closet: 3-6 months
{click to enlarge}

i finally
had a chance
to sit and
draw
my
wee grub closet
planner
{thus far}
this weekend.

weegrub closet: 6-12 months
{click to enlarge}

i had some
quiet time
to organize.

wee grub closet:  12-18months
{click to enlarge}

i gravitate
towards
solids & stripes
and
bold patterns.
i don't really
like cutsie
with the occasional
exception.

grub
would
prefer to
have
everything
in
white.
surprised?
thought not.
when our friend
annemarie
brought us
nijntje clothes
from the netherlands,
grub reconsidered
and now
wants
wee grub
to wear all
nijntje clothes.

some of
the clothes
i love:

wee grub's closet: fav onesie
{from our dc neighbors}

weegrub_owlsleeper
{thrifted
by aunty kiyomi-
i love
the aden and anais brand}

weegrub_dontbugmes
{thrifted
by aunty astrid}

weegrub_porcupines
{from
aunty eliza}

weegrub_pears
{a decadent
purchase of
something new}

also
all our new
nijntje
and
jip & janneke
clothes
from
aunty annemarie!

. . . . .

i think grub
thought
i had bought
too many clothes
but when
we graphed it out
we realized
we have very little...
especially considering
our bizarre
laundry schedule
{we can only use
the machine
every 10 days}!
also
all the thrift stores
are closed
for july vacations
so i can't
thrift shop again
until
early august.
how can they
do this to me?!

so yes,
we do still
need clothes
so feel free
to thrift
some stylish
baby clothes
for us.

weegrub_weinerdogs

so experienced
mamas & papas...
what are some
essentials?

some things
to consider:
month 1 - 2.5:
swiss autumn
(sept to mid-nov)
month 2.5 - 6:
hot mexico weather
(mid-nov to mid-feb)
month 6 & onward:
swiss late winter & beyond
(mid feb & on)

any advice?

i will post
a 32 week update
in a day or two...
a lot has happened...
wee grub had
a doctor's appt.,
went on a long swim
with me,
and
i had
my first
birth preparation
yoga class!

more soon.

  1. All adorable! I would purchase big packs of standard white onesies and tshirts. My daughter was born in May and she only wore the plain white tops + diapers all summer. For Mexico I would buy white long sleeve tops since I don't think you can use sunscreen until 3 months? Maybe that has changed. You will also want a large sun hat in a light color for Mexico. Cheers!

  2. first off, these illustrations are the sweetest!
    *love*
    now, here's the "swiss" advice.
    you'll definitely need to add some knits to your newborn wear. our daughter wore one of these nearly every day for the first couple of months.

  3. ugh! sorry about that ugly link (but here's another one). another thing that i would highly suggest is a little suit that's warm and has a hood (with footsies is also great).
    we used ergobaby and when it's cold outside something like this is perfect:

  4. i'll also echo hayley on the cool white clothes. long sleeves and pants and a wide-brimmed hat are so much easier than sunscreen.
    my daughter has been wearing long sleeves all summer long. i really like cool cotton puffy pants (baby skin is really sun sensitive)

  5. I loved the sacs they are amazing for newborns!!!
    Kimono type onsies are great!!!!!
    With your laundry schedule you need 12 onsies,
    6-8 pull on pants
    We did not like sleepers with feet for 9 months & up since our kids are long & skinny...white is great for newborns but much harder past one year.
    Many cottOn bibs for drool from 14-24 months. 3 or 4 sweatshirts...one or two coats. We love the Bjorn baby carrier :) 3 crib sheets...a great diaper bag!! A great stroller...we love love our BOB !!!!! Oh how exciting!!!!!!!

  6. well if you still need advice..... here is what worked for us, modify as needed:

    when it is warm so far we just wear a tee shirt and dipes, especially since he has cute (and easy) cloth dipes. shorts seem pointless. of course next summer this will probably change.

    i like tees better, my husband likes onesies.

    we have a few cute jeans, but mostly we like legging type pants better. they just seem more soft/comfy.

    we love footed one peices for mornings and chilly times. baby socks are so hard to keep on! ESP when little...

    that said with fall approaching i just ordered a boatload of socks since i dont want him wearing nothing but his footed outfits!

    i know celia says she likes LOTS of clothes, but I find that i will always choose the cuter outfit that he recently wore over the less cute outfit that he hasnt worn in weeks. so, i think in the future i will go easy on the thrift store purchases (i have a lot of OK things, but things that get passed up for better things) and go easy on myself when i splurge on cuter things, and just buy fewer.

    and, HE GROWS SO FAST.

    good luck, ADORABLE drawings! great purchases!
