thrifting for vee

i am
on the constant
search
for
beautiful
wooden toys
and things
for vee.



i found
a set of
wooden animals
in the
à donner
(free) box
at the secondhand store
(just like
this set online).
vee loves them.
especially
le chat.



the little people
in this fire truck
fascinate vee.
the green pawn
came with the truck
but
i found
the painted lady
in the
à donner box.



these stackable
wooden
haba toys
are
vee favorites
as well.



i found
a little
carpenter bench
that i set up
in the kitchen
so vee can
work next
to her papa
while he cooks.



i suppose
some toys
are more
interesting
to me
that to vee,
like this cool
old naef
ptt postes suisses bus.

7 months

this month

has been quite 

the adventure

for our wee vee...

she has
crossed borders

and 

ascended
high

into the mountains-

10,000- feet 

above sea level.

little vee

gets around.

in mid-march

we headed

north to

goettigen, germany

for a conference.

afterwards

we continued north

to visit
my aunt conny,
uncle edgar, 

& cousin tina
in bremen.

edgar and conny

were the first relatives

(besides omi)
to see vee
just a few hours

after she was born.

vee was quite smitten 

with aunt conny.

cousin tina gave vee
a gigantic teddy bear.

vee watched
uncle edgar
make us
flaming bananas.

at the end
of march
we took
a trip
to the mountains
of the valais
for a weekend
in a cabin
with our friends
christophe & jesse.

on easter
our friend kelly
came for a visit.

vee loved kelly.
they were soon
fast friends.

we took many trips with kelly...

we went in the gondola
up to
the the mountain titlis.

 

10,000 feet high!
the highest any of us
had been...

 

she also saw castles
from grandson
to chillon.

vee is also
full of adventure
in everyday life.

she is curious
about everything.

she wants
to face out
in the carrier
when we take walks.



anything within
her reach is fair game.
from bottles to fondue forks.




she has made
a forray into solid foods!

















the verdict: not interested.





we are still working
on that.

life with vee
is increasing
more fun
but more of a challenge.
every day
she learns something new
and so do we.

it's easy
to fall in love
with this little girl
as she shows us
more and more
of her personality
every day.

6 months

vee turned
6 months old
almost
2 weeks ago.



we had
a little
party for her.
i tried
to make a cake
but grub
had to save it.



it tasted
very good
but did not
look pretty.
grub said
that
it looked
like vee made it.

our friends
pip, angela,
and johnattan
came over
to celebrate.

she got
a new
nijntje rattle
from us
and angela
brought
her a
soft book.



this month
has been
a blur.
i have been
so busy
with work
and vee
has gone
through
so many major
changes
i feel like
many many
months
have passed...



each month
we sit down
and write
a page down
in vee's
baby journal.



we reflect
on how
vee has changed.

i don't think
that
i would
remember
it all
if we didn't
make
sure to
write it
down
each month
(we weren't
so good
about that
the first
3 months).

each month
i am
a little sad
because
she is
changing
so fast.



it's exciting
to think
about things
like
teaching her
to snowboard
but scary
to think
that
before
i know it
she will soon
no longer
be a baby.

here
are a few
memorable moments
this month:











she now
sleeps in
her
own crib
in
her
own room
at night.
we thought
the transition
would be
a big deal
but vee
was as ready
for
her own space
as her parents
were.

she shows
more and more
personality
every day.
she is
outgoing
and
easygoing.

she is
full of
laughter.

we are very
lucky.

she constantly
amazes us
with her new skills.

she kills us
with
her charm.

lastly,
thank you
all so much
for your
outpouring
of support
and kindness
about
dealing
with
vee's
eye problem.
it was
a difficult
to
share it.
we both
appreciate
your
support
so much.

the last
2 weeks
have sped by
and
vee turned
one month old.

today
she is
5 weeks
old.
we feel
like we know
her much better
but still
worry a lot
that
we are doing
things "right."

vee now can hold
her head up
for a while
and seems
more alert-
noticing
people and things
around her.
she is enamoured
with
the
black
and white
image of
a girl
and her
linnea doll
that we put
on her
changing table
to distract her.



she
almost
seems
to flirt
with them...
smiling & laughing
(after she
furrows
her brow
for a while).

vee has had
many visitors
including her
aunt krista.



vee
has cried
a lot.



often
we feel helpless
and
don't know
what to do.

many afternoons
my yoga ball
is
the only
thing that
will soothe her
(well besides
the boob,
of course).

this
is a very common
scene
at the
wee grub residence.



she finally
will be
lulled
to sleep
after much
bouncing.



we even bribe
visitors
to do it,
like
vee's
aunt pip.



vee's
grandma
and grandpa
(grub's parents)
arrived
this week
and
of course
they
are smitten
with her
(despite
the crying fits).



each day
brings
something new
and
as our midwife
is constantly
telling us-
we need to
just
chill out
and
enjoy it.

so
that's
what
we are
trying
to do.
