weegrub: 1 month old!

the last
2 weeks
have sped by
and
vee turned
one month old.

today
she is
5 weeks
old.
we feel
like we know
her much better
but still
worry a lot
that
we are doing
things "right."

vee now can hold
her head up
for a while
and seems
more alert-
noticing
people and things
around her.
she is enamoured
with
the
black
and white
image of
a girl
and her
linnea doll
that we put
on her
changing table
to distract her.

she
almost
seems
to flirt
with them...
smiling & laughing
(after she
furrows
her brow
for a while).

vee has had
many visitors
including her
aunt krista.

vee
has cried
a lot.

often
we feel helpless
and
don't know
what to do.

many afternoons
my yoga ball
is
the only
thing that
will soothe her
(well besides
the boob,
of course).

this
is a very common
scene
at the
wee grub residence.

she finally
will be
lulled
to sleep
after much
bouncing.

we even bribe
visitors
to do it,
like
vee's
aunt pip.

vee's
grandma
and grandpa
(grub's parents)
arrived
this week
and
of course
they
are smitten
with her
(despite
the crying fits).

weegrub_23oct_grandma

each day
brings
something new
and
as our midwife
is constantly
telling us-
we need to
just
chill out
and
enjoy it.

so
that's
what
we are
trying
to do.

  1. Vee is adorable! I'm a new mom to a three week old so it has been fun reading your posts and being able to relate. Have you tried babywearing yet? Sometimes it's the only thing that will calm Mira down when she is fussy. She instantly falls asleep when I'm wearing her. It is magical!

  2. yea sling is good
maybe you need to invest in a baby swing/vibrating chair too :)
    hang in there
it will get easier (and then harder in other ways)

  3. Yikes, but it's kind of hard to chill out and enjoy anything if someone is crying, right? Still, I bet you are doing a fabulous job, and you'll see that soon---she'll be laughing and babbling more than crying, and that'll be the fun part. (I LOOOOOVE pre-speech toddlers!) I have no parenting advice to give. I'm really good with orchids, which don't cry at all... All I can say is, best of luck and I'm sure you're doing fine.

  6. I remember this feeling very well, wanting to get it so right. My little girl is 1.5 now, it got really fun after 6 months...hang in there, your baby is lovely!

  7. Such a sweet peek.

I think something kind of magical happens around the 3-month mark ... not exactly overnight but almost ... it's like they had one more trimester wanting to be in the womb still, but then they're all: WOOHOO! Life out here ROCKS!

  9. I am 11 weeks pregnant and still can't fathom that all this will happen to me! I really like reading about your life with your new little one. Also, I had a Linnea doll as a kid and loved it! So nice to see one again.

  10. Aw, she is adorable! My second (now 6 months) was colicky and I found diet had a lot to do with it. The proteins in dairy, soy and wheat can cause them trouble. I cut out dairy at 1.5 months and was amazed by the change in his demeanor- he became much happier:) An elimination diet is a pain but is always worth a try!
