9 months
everyone tells you
that these moments
of your baby's life
are fleeting...
that before you know it
you are watching them
walk...
talk...
then
graduate from college...
in late may
a single mayfly
sat on
our window
for a day
waiting
to molt
into an adult.
these insects
live
for just a short time...
a few minutes
to a few days...
thus
their name
ephemeroptera
from the greek ephemeros.
when i saw
it there
waiting to become
an adult
but so very
vulnerable
to the world outside
i couldn't help
think of vee
and how
quickly
each moment passes.
9 months have passed.
she has
been on the outside
as long as she grew
in my belly.
now she sits
in the chair
like a big girl...
laughing
and chattering...
not so long ago
she was
more
grub-like
(with
such
dark hair)!
vee at 2 months
parenthood
certainly
makes
time
seem
so
much
more
ephemeral.
. . . . . . . . .
on the day vee
turned
9 months
we headed
to lausanne
for her monthly
eye appointment.
she was
so very patient
on the train ride
to the hospital
so patient
while we
waited
and waited
to see the doctor.
and even though
it was long
past her nap time
she smiled
at the doctors
and sat quietly
while they examined her
and talked to us.
what a trooper
our little vee is.
. . . . . . . . .
and so
it has been
a busy month
for vee.
she got her 2nd tooth
and started (finally)
eating solid food.
it was like one day
she decided it was time
and from then on
she opened her mouth
and was ready to eat.
an important
lesson to all parents
on
worrying about
whether their child
is eating,
crawling,
talking,
walking
at the right time
when
every other child is...
they will do it
when
they are ready
and
there is no point
in worrying about it
(i will need to be
reminded
of this often)...
. . . . . . . . .
vee enjoys
a good book
and lately has
taken to
turning the pages
and
reading
to herself.

. . . . . . . . .
vee is not really
a crawler
but she rolls all
over the place...
she is quite
a proficient roller.
most mornings
when we have all
had our
beverages of choice
(milk, tea, coffee)
we set her up
in the
"roll arena"
on the bed
and let her roll
until
she is
ready for nap time.
this past month
directionality
has entered into
her movement.
she sees something
and
she wants
to go there.

we are beginning
to vee-proof
the apartment.
. . . . . . . . .
every day
vee is more fun.
she laughs a lot
and is
usually in
a good mood.
no matter
how
brooding,
stressed,
or worried
we are,
vee always
manages
to make
us smile
and laugh.
happy 9 months
sweet wee grub.

She's gotten so big since April. Wow, time flies. I particularly love the super-happy please-with-herself expression after she crosses the bedroom. What a strong girl!

ReplyDeleteGrowing up in Ohio we had a roller skating rink called the Roll Arena where all the cool kids had their birthday parties! Vee is definitely a cool kid - she's so chill.
